Pregnant and Engaged: Simplify Wedding Planning During Pregnancy

“Here comes the bride and a baby!”

Whew! Ok, so now you’ve got two exciting life-changing events on the way, a baby and a wedding. Well, hello sunshine, and Congratulations! You may have got engaged and started planning your dream wedding and then found out that you were pregnant. Now you are wondering what you should do. We say, plan the wedding ceremony, and we’ll take care of the details!

You can easily plan one of the most iconic memorable days of your life.

One of the most complex decisions you will have to make is keeping your current wedding date or postponing your wedding until after delivering the baby. To help you decide what option works best for you and your partner, you can plan a date to sit down with your fiancé and create a pros and cons list for keeping the wedding date and postponing your wedding for a later date.

If you choose to continue with your original wedding plans, we’re here to help you simplify the planning process as much as possible so you can enjoy your pregnancy and look forward to your dream wedding. Let’s take a look at some tips that can help you along the way:

Plan for Unexpected Events

A rule of thumb is that you should always plan for the unexpected when planning for a wedding because anything can go wrong. Some things are just out of your control. If you recently found out that you’re pregnant, prepare for any unexpected events that may happen. Ask yourself how your due date will impact your wedding date. How far along will you be when you’re ready to walk down the aisle? When is your due date? If you get pregnant shortly before your wedding, you may not have to make any changes at all. However, if you get pregnant nine months before your wedding date, you may want to change your wedding date so that you aren't giving birth the day that you’re supposed to be walking down the aisle.

Reduce Your Stress Levels

Planning a wedding is stressful! Wedding planning during pregnancy can cause you more than the average amount of stress, especially during the first trimester because your body is creating a safe place for your growing baby-to-be. What should you do? Focus on what’s most important to you and cut yourself some slack.

Prioritize as Much as Possible

Seems like a simple task, huh? Try going from 0 MPH to 100MPH in thirty seconds. It’s nearly impossible. The same goes for planning your dream wedding as you had initially planned it. Now that you have the priorities of baby and wedding planning, both of which are significant events, prioritize the wedding details that matter the most to you. For example, are you able to switch venues? How about reducing your guest list? It will be easier to create a realistic, breathtakingly beautiful wedding ceremony by prioritizing your wedding details.

Carry a Planner

Pregnancy fog is a real thing! You will forget many things, such as doctor appointments that you accidentally scheduled on the same day as venue tour appointments.

Determine Who Should Know that You’re Pregnant

You might decide to make a huge announcement about your pregnancy or choose to keep the details a secret until after your wedding day. If you aren’t showing by the time you walk down the aisle, you’ve got options and might decide to hide the news until a later time. If you are showing, you may want to break the news to avoid hearing the assumptions of others.

Ask for Help from Friends and Family

Now, more than ever is probably the time to ask for help from your loved ones. Once you prioritize your wedding details, you can create a to-do list and designate each person to specific tasks. Be clear about your needs so to help keep confusion and stress at a minimum.

Make Changes to Your Wedding Dress

Depending on how far along you are, you may or may not need to make alterations to your wedding dress; or choose to purchase something maternity-specific.

Make Changes to Your Honeymoon Plans

Yes, it will be a bummer if you can’t take that honeymoon trip that you’ve been waiting for. Keep in mind that your health and safety are more important. Talk to your doctor about your travel plans, any concerns about flying, and the dangers of going to your chosen honeymoon destination during your pregnancy. Consult with your travel agency or the airline/ hotel/car rental if you need to change your honeymoon plans. More than likely, they will be able to make accommodations for you.

Take Time for Yourself

Make self-care a priority. As you schedule your week, be sure to schedule time for yourself to rest, relax, exercise, read a book, or spend quality time with your partner. No, wedding planning is not an option!

In 2008, during one of his walks, he stopped to sit at one of his favorite spots in the Park, the Bethesda Fountain. It was here that he realized that the intrinsic beauty that surrounds us was not being harnessed fully. He also realized that not a single business provided the exclusiveness of an affordable and high-quality event planner. Determined to change this, Happenings™ was born
