You’ve dreamed of this moment for a long time, maybe even your whole life. A dream wedding ceremony in Central Park, across from the person you love. Celebrating the love you share. That dream though feels like it is slowly falling away under the mountain. This can leave you stressed, and frustrated by a process that’s consuming all your time without you really getting what you want in the end.
What if you could still plan your dream wedding ceremony and build a stronger relationship with your partner too? In this article, we'll discuss a few simple ways that you and your partner can continue to grow your relationship while you are preparing to tie the knot.
# 1. Keep the Communication Line Open
A drum roll please! Communication is really important in any relationship. Now that you are engaged, it’s even more important to have an open line of communication with your partner. While you can't control everything that happens, you can create a safe space for each other to come to and talk about what’s going on in everyday life. This allows both of you to be vulnerable and open up about important things. This will also help you build a stronger and healthier relationship.
# 2. Go out on Dates
YES! Stop slacking. Just because you are engaged does not mean that your dating relationship is over. You need a break, your partner probably does too, so go for it. There are many adult-friendly things for you to do together such as going on a hike, bike-riding, the movies, or something as simple as a romantic backyard dinner.
# 3. Show Each Other Affection
Don’t be afraid to be affectionate with your partner. Physical touch and emotional connection are very powerful tools to bring you and your future spouse closer together. Give each other hugs, hold hands, kisses on the forehead, and other acts of sensual gestures. Just remember that whatever you choose to do, be sure that it is within your and your partner’s boundaries.
# 4. Don’t Be Afraid to Have Sex as Often as you Both Want
Sex can be like milk, it does the body good. Well, sex is actually good for the body, and your mind too. Among other health benefits, sex can improve your mood, relieves stress, and boosts your confidence. Additionally, being sexual can bring you and your partner closer together. For some, sex brings a sense of security within the relationship.
# 5. Keep Your Relationship with your Partner Private
Everyone and their momma don’t need to know your business. If you and your partner are upset, take a break from posting anything on social media; and don’t call your relatives to complain. This will only leave a bad taste in their mouth about your future spouse, and your partner will probably be upset about it too. Instead, try communicating with each other. If that isn’t working and you are having major concerns about your relationship then it may be time to reach out to a professional.
# 6. Practice Gratitude Towards your Partner
We all want to love and to be loved. We all want to know that we are appreciated as well. Always let your partner know how grateful you are for them. Show your appreciation with acts of kindness too. For example, you could do something as simple as writing a little thank you note on a napkin and placing it on their windshield to send a bouquet of flowers or edible arrangements to their job.
Final Thoughts
You may already have a strong relationship with your partner and that is great. However, there is always something that we can do to continue strengthening the bond and intimacy in our relationship, which allows us to continuously learn from each other and grow together as a couple.
About Happenings™
Based in Manhattan, Happenings™ founder Tom Noel would often take a walk through Central Park. In 2008, during one of his walks, he stopped to sit at one of his favorite iconic locations in the Park, the Bethesda Fountain. There, Mr. Noel noticed that the intrinsic beauty that surrounded him was not being fully harnessed. He also realized that not a single business provided the exclusiveness of an affordable and high-quality event planner. Determined to change this, Happenings™ was born.
